Mike Lewis is Managing Director of PenLion and brings to the company 30 years of human resources experience in blue chip companies. He recently retired from the Standard Bank as Director, Human Resources Development after a banking career spanning 18 years. During this time, he engaged extensively with global leading edge practises and travelled widely to confer with some of the world’s best companies including the likes of IBM, Boeing, Shell, BP, Goldman Sachs, Motorola etc.

> The formulation and implementation of Human Resources strategy.
> Re-structuring the Human Resources function.
> Working with McKinsey as Director of an Activity Value Analysis project which cut functional costs by over 40%.
> Formulation a direct distribution banking strategy as a member of a McKinsey project team.
> The establishment of a leadership pipeline and talent management system.
> The design of an effective organisation-wide performance management system that incorporated the use of the “Vitality Curve”.
> Crafting corporate health and HIV/AIDS strategies for application across the bank’s South African and African footprint.
> The establishment of the banking sector’s Education and Training Authority.
Whilst at the bank Mike held various leadership positions on a number of representative bodies:
> Founder member and Chairman of the banking sector’s Education and Training Authority, Bankseta (www.bankseta.org.za), recently nominated as one of South Africa’s Top 300 Companies.
> Chairman of the Employer’s Forum
> Council member and Fellow of the Institute of Bankers.
> Member, Business South Africa’s Committee on Education and Training.
> Chairman, Inter-Bank Compliance Training Steering Committee, the sector’s compliance training body.
> Member, Private Investors for Africa’s Committee on HIV/AIDS.
> Mike holds an MA (cum laude) from Rhodes University, an MBL (cum laude) from UNISA and a CAIB from the Institute of Bankers. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers.
